MARQUETTE -- Join Save the Wild U.P. (SWUP) beginning at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, for their end-of-year Winter Gala event at the Marquette Federation of Women’s Clubs.
The keynote speaker will be John Stauber, author of Toxic Sludge is Good for You; Trust Us, We’re Experts and more. John is a life-long rabble-rouser, founder of the Center for Media and Democracy, and an expert on how well-funded public relations teams work to manipulate science for their own benefit.
In addition to hand-selected wines, the celebration will include hors d'oeuvres, giveaways, and an amazing U.P.-inspired silent auction designed for holiday gift-giving that supports local artists and businesses.
SWUP is proud to feature works by Kathleen Conover, Russell Thorburn, Aaron Peterson, Christine Saari, Beth Millner, Yvonne LeMire, Barry Bernstein, and experiences including a guided fishing trip, dinner at the Sweet Water Café, and massages -- just to name a few. This is truly an event not to be missed!
Tickets are going fast and will likely sell out, so buy yours today at rally.org/SWUPgala or call (906) 662-9987. If you can’t make it, but would like to make a contribution, visit rally.org/savethewildup.
All proceeds will kick off SWUP's 2014 programs protecting the U.P.’s communities and environment from the hazards of sulfide mining. Plans for 2014 include the launch of SWUP's Intern Corps, new grassroots outreach efforts, more cultural events and hikes, and continued clear-eyed advocacy as the group continues working to protect our water and land for generations.
