HANCOCK -- Looking for a special treat for Valentines Day? Dress up and come out for the Parade of Confections fundraiser, where there will be a live auction of decadent gourmet desserts followed by a dance with the Pasi Cats. The Parade of Confections is an annual fundraiser for the Copper Country Community Arts Center in Hancock and will take place from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. TONIGHT, Friday, Feb.14, at the Finnish American Heritage Center at 435 Quincy Street in Hancock.

Event auctioneer Captain Don Kilpela of the Isle Royale Queen will begin the live auction at 6:30 p.m. sharp.  The evening will also include a silent auction of jewelry and art, live music by Clay Hilman, and hors d'oeuvres. People may bid on desserts individually or in groups.

Following the auction will be a dance with the PasiCats starting at 8 p.m. Tickets for $10 each may be purchased at the Arts Center or at the door.

2012 Calumet Heritage Celebration to honor Finnish culture Aug. 13-18

CALUMET -- Main Street Calumet's 2012 Heritage Celebration will honor Finnish culture from Monday, Aug. 13, through Saturday, Aug. 18.

Here is the schedule:

Monday, Aug. 13: "Kupari ja Kotimaa -- A New Homeland in the Copper Country," will begin at 7 p.m. at St. Anne’s Heritage Center. Music, fun, and remarks by Hilary Joy Virtanen, Finnish American Heritage Center.

Tuesday, Aug. 14: Coppertown Miner's Reunion. Coppertown Museum will host an open house beginning at 6 p.m. with "Mining stories and miners." At 7:30 p.m. labor historian Gary Kaunonen of Michigan Technological University will offer some remarks on mining history.

Wednesday, Aug. 15: Eero and Roseann Angeli will offer a Finnish Dance workshop at 7 p.m. at the Omphale Gallery and Café, 431 Fifth Street in Calumet.

Thursday, Aug. 16: This year's Red Metal Radio Show -- "The Joke Show" -- will begin at 7 p.m. at the Calumet Theatre. Tickets are $10.50; Seniors and Students $8; available at the theater box office or at the door. Also broadcasting live on K-Bear 102.3 FM and online www.kbear102.com.

Friday, Aug. 17: A Finn Hall Dance will feature the "Finn Hall Band" from Minnesota. 7 p.m. at the Omphale Gallery and Café, 431 Fifth Street in Calumet. Free admittance -- donations accepted.

9 a.m. - 11 a.m. -- Ethnic Breakfasts in Agassiz Park
Sidewalk Sales downtown.
10 a.m. -- Great Deer Chase (mountain bike race) 5th Street roll-out.
11 a.m. -- The Copper Country Heritage Parade on 5th Street

The Parade will be followed by a full afternoon of fun, food, music, vendors, and games in Agassiz Park. Horse-drawn guided tours. Music by "The Finn Hall Band" and "The Pasi Cats"

Pasi Cats to play dance music June 29 at Hancock Waterfront

HANCOCK -- PasiCats will return to action with new look on Friday, June 29, at Hancock Rocks event. The event takes place at Hancock Waterfront (next to Copper Island Beach Club).

Pasi Cats to close final Houghton Summer Concert series TONIGHT, Sept. 1

HOUGHTON -- The final concert of the Houghton Downtown Summer Concert Series will take place at Parking Deck across from Wells Fargo from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. TONIGHT, Thursday, Sept. 1.

The musical lineup is as follows:

6 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. -- Trio Tumpelot (Anna Gawboy (concertina), Meghan Pachmayer (bass) and Pasi Lautala (accordion and vocals)

6:40 p.m. - 7:20 p.m. -- Agate Pickers (From Corktown, MI, Kenny O'Connor on guitar; from Dodgeville "progress our goal," MI, Mary Kurttu on bass; from Iron River, MI, Spookie Lukie Dedo on drums and Randy Dandy on vox)

Houghton Spring Art and Music Festival to celebrate 10th year June 11

HOUGHTON -- Celebrate the arrival of spring with the Houghton Spring Art and Music Festival happening from noon - 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, on the upper parking deck in downtown Houghton. The festival, now in its 10th year, provides an opportunity to hear live local music, spend time downtown, and shop at regional artist booths.

Located behind the Keweenaw Brewing Company, this year’s artist booths will feature stained glass, pottery, jewelry, fiber art, paintings, wearable art, photography, honey products, and many more quality art items for sale.

Award-winning author Debbie Frontiera sells her books at the 2010 Art and Music Festival. Look for Debbie and her booth at this year's festival as well!

There will be a variety of fun and free family art activities, including Stephanie Treviño's Art Bus, the Frog Hop scavenger hunt (offering prizes for visiting local businesses), a Plant Sale and the ever popular Extreme Bake Sale.

Artist Stephanie Treviño's Art Bus, temporarily parked here in Hancock, will make its public debut at the 2011 Houghton Spring Art and Music Festival this Saturday, June 11.
