State Representatives address Upper Peninsula vets, seek input for proposed legislation

LAKE LINDEN -- State Representative Scott Dianda (D-Calumet), along with two other state representatives he invited to join him, has been holding town hall meetings this weekend on veterans' issues -- beginning in Wakefield on Friday, Oct. 4, and ending Sunday, Oct. 6, in Iron River.

Dianda's guests -- Reps. David Kenezek (D-Dearborn Heights) and Harvey Santana (D-Detroit) -- are enthusiastic about working with Dianda to introduce legislation that will improve veterans' lives. The town halls are intended to start conversations with Upper Peninsula veterans to find out what their needs are.

All three representatives expressed their hope to make it possible for U.P. veterans to attend college and further their education.

Noon EDT -- at L'Anse American Legion Post 144, 115 N. Front St. in L'Anse

2 p.m. CDT -- at Stambaugh American Legion Post 21, 212 Washington Ave. in Iron River.

Rep. Dianda to host series of town hall events on veterans' issues Oct. 4, 5,6

LANSING – State Representative Scott Dianda (D-Calumet) will be hosting a series of town hall events Friday, Oct. 4, through Sunday, Oct. 6, focusing on veterans' issues and ways of improving the lives of those who have served us. Dianda will be joined in conversation by special guests Reps. David Kenezek (D-Dearborn Heights) and Harvey Santana (D-Detroit).

Here is the schedule:

Friday, Oct. 4: 4 p.m. CDT at Wakefield American Legion Post 11, 605 River St. in Wakefield; 7 p.m. EDT at White Pine American Legion Post 462, 62 Hemlock St. in White Pine.

Saturday, Oct. 5: Noon EDT at Lake Linden American Legion post 90, 454 Front St. in Lake Linden; 4 p.m. EDT at Mohawk American Legion Post 230, 122 Stanton Ave. in Mohawk.

Sunday, Oct. 6: Noon EDT at L'Anse American Legion Post 144, 115 N. Front St. in L'Anse; 2 p.m. CDT at Stambaugh American Legion Post 21, 212 Washington Ave. in Iron River.

U.S. Congressman Benishek to hold town hall meetings in Hancock, Negaunee Aug. 19

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Michigan First District U.S. Congressman Dan Benishek will hold two public town hall meetings TOMORROW, Monday, Aug. 19.

From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. (EDT), Benishek will meet with constituents at the American Legion Post, 1320 Quincy St., Hancock. He will be in Negaunee from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Negaunee Elks Lodge No. 1116, 107 North Pioneer Avenue.

Constituents will have the opportunity to meet with Dr. Benishek and share with him their thoughts and concerns on legislative issues facing Congress. Casework staff will also be available to assist constituents with questions regarding federal agencies.
