SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- The first debate in Michigan’s 1st Congressional District race will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. EDT on Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, at the Landmark Baptist Church in Petoskey. Democratic candidate Gary McDowell will debate Republican candidate Dan Benishek, Independent candidate Glenn Wilson, Green Party candidate Ellis Boal, U.S. Taxpayers candidate Patrick Lambert and Libertarian candidate Keith Shelton. As of Oct. 13, all candidates are confirmed to attend.
The debate will be moderated by WMKT host Greg Marshall, Petoskey News-Review reporter Rachel Brougham and Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce executive director Carlin Smith. The debate will be open to the public. It will be carried live on WMKT 1270 AM and 92.1 FM, which reach much of the northern Lower Peninsula and portions of the southern Upper Peninsula.

The debate is sponsored by the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce, North Central Michigan College, the Petoskey News-Review, WMKT, the Northwest Michigan Industrial Association, the Little Traverse Association of Home Builders and the Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council.
The Landmark Baptist Church is located at 1182 Kemp Road, Petoskey, Michigan.
